About This Concert
This programme begins with Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4, a radiant work filled with bright, operatic melodies and a spirited, dance-like finale. Written when the composer was just 19, it perfectly balances virtuosic display with effortless grace. By contrast, Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll offers a rare glimpse into the composer’s private world. Written as a secret birthday gift for his wife Cosima after the birth of their son Siegfried, Wagner’s only symphonic poem weaves themes from his famous Ring Cycle into lullabies for chamber orchestra.
